Meet The Pros: Ivan Nikčević
Celebrating the 2018 Men's Euro Handball Championship, we present some of the fighters playing in the hummel handball shoes during the tournament. Here, you can meet Serbian player Ivan Nikčević!
Born in 1981, Serbian left wing player Ivan Nikčević currently plays as Sporting Clube de Portugal and – of course – for the Serbian national team. As he heads out onto court to compete in the 2018 Men’s European Handball Championship, we caught him for a quick chat about his best memories and how he started playing.
Throughout your career, you have experienced many highlights – what would be your favorite highlight?
It definitely has to be the 2012 Men’s European Handball Championship, where we played against Croatia in front of 24.000 fans in Belgrade.
If you could only use three words to describe your way of playing handball, what would they be?
Dedication, devotion, and effort.
When choosing a handball shoe, what’s the most important features for you?
The very first thing is that the fit is good, that my feet feel comfortable in them. The next is that they are soft and I feel stabile wearing them.
Growing up as a younger player, who was your biggest idol? Who did you look up to or dream about playing with or against?
I must say that I never had an idol. I was watching the older players and tried to ‘steal’ something from each one of them. But if I need to choose one left wing player that I respect a lot, it will be Lars Christiansen [who played for the Danish national team from 1992-2012].
What would be your ultimate handball experience – something you haven’t yet achieved?
It would be to participate in the EHF Champions League Final Four!
