Meet The Pros: Ferran Solé
25-year-old handball player Ferran Solé usually plays for Fenix Toulouse HB – but for the coming weeks, he will of course be found on the Spanish national team, playing at his first Men’s European Handball Championship. To celebrate that, we talked to the player about the excitement of the national team, playing at the big championships and his early start as a four-year-old handball player.
What is the most exciting thing about playing international championships?
The most exciting thing is that when we play these championships with the national team, everyone is much more excited and the whole country follows the matched and supports us. In addition, every match is really hard and I get the opportunity to play with and against the best players in the world.
What is the most exciting thing about playing international Championships like the EC?
The goal that I scored at the last second when I was playing with BM Granollers against Sporting Lissabon in the third round of the EHF Cup. It allowed us to play the group stage.
If you could only use three words to describe your way of playing handball, what would they be?
Speed, agility and determination.
What prompted you to play handball in the first place – and when/where was it?
I started playing handball when I was 4 years old following the steps of my older brother. A friend of mine and myself had nothing to do that afternoon, so my parents decided to take us to my brother’s training. Since that day I have loved handball.
When choosing a handball shoe, what’s the most important features for you?
The most important thing is that it must adapt perfectly to your feet, allowing you to run and move without slipping and without even noticing that you are wearing shoes.
Growing up as a younger player, who was your biggest idol? Who did you look up to or dream about playing with or against?
I had many idols but I always wanted to play like Mirza Dzomba, Luc Abalo or Albert Rocas.
